To no surprise the Democratic Senate leaders and the Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer refused to meet with Supreme Court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch this past Thursday. This is nothing more then a ploy of in the art of so called revenge against the Republicans for holding the seat open of the late Justice Antonin Scalia and for not holding a hearing to confirm the Supreme Court appointee of Obama, liberal judge Merrick Garland.
According to The Washington Post, the White House requested a meeting between Chuck Schumer and Judge Gorsuch but the aides for Schumer used the excuse that he would decline the meeting because Schumer wanted to learn more about the record of Judge Neil Gorsuch. What a load of crap being spewed by Schumer and his aides.
In statement released by Carrie Severino, who is chief counsel of the Judicial Crisis Network:
“By refusing to meet with Judge Gorsuch, Senate Democratic leadership is taking Washington gridlock and obstruction to a new low and placing Senators McCaskill, Donnelly, Heitkamp, Tester, and other Democrats up for reelection in 2018 on the endangered politicians list.”
“A bipartisan chorus of support has emerged for Judge Gorsuch, a man of extraordinary legal credentials and qualifications, including from President Obama’s former Solicitor General, Neal Katyal. This bipartisan support has put Democratic Senators in a state of confusion and disarray, caught today trying to deceive their constituents about a 60-vote standard that the Washington Post gave two Pinocchios. Senators McCaskill, Donnelly, Heitkamp and Tester represent states that President Trump won by significant margins and these Senators are signing up for a Democratic leadership obstructionist scheme that will lead them to defeat in 2018.”
But there is a division amongst the Democrat party as several prominent Democrats have endorsed Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court including Neal Katyal, Obama’s former Solicitor General and Hamilton Jordan, son of former President Carter’s chief of staff.
Several Democrats in states that were won by Donald Trump in the 2016 election said that they were looking forward to meeting with Neil Gorsuch when he was back on Capitol Hill. Included in that group are Montana Senator Jon Tester and West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin.
Sen. Tester said in an interview with “Fox and Friends” that his decision on Gorsuch depends on “how he presents himself” and he called Gorsuch “a pro” and that he believes the judge will do “a fine job presenting himself.”
While speaking with reporters Sen. Manchin said he is not a “filibuster kind of guy I just want to look at some of his judicial findings and rulings.” Manchin added, “I just think it was absolutely a travesty and embarrassment for the way Merrick Garland was treated.”
Sounds like there is some dissension among the ranks of the Democrats to me. Let us see how long it takes the Democrats to self implode even further.
