Given the track record of Socialism one has to wonder why and how it is gaining in popularity in the United States. One also has to wonder what the appeal of socialism is to a generation that does not have a clue of what socialism is all about. Socialism is defined as a way of organizing a society in which major industries are owned and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and companies.
In a recent survey by Harvard University it was found that 51 percent of young people from the age 18 to 29 do not support capitalism. With only 42 percent of them supporting an economic system that will allow even the poorest American to live better and to have more opportunities for advancement then majority of the rest of the world. Of the ones surveyed Thirty-three percent of them supported socialism.
You have to ask yourself a question, Why is it that socialism receive such a very strong support from the youth of the present time? In my opinion it is partly due to what is being taught to them by the public schools and universities and it is also partly due to the ignorance and human nature. The youth of the present day, that supports socialism, would rather be given a check rather then having to go to work and earn it. Just going to prove that they think they are entitled to being given something for nothing.
It is not hard to understand why today’s youth is attracted to socialism in the United States. No one has had to live under the realm of socialism. The current college students, who proclaim to be smart and intelligent, must not be learning from the real history in their classes that is being taught by tenured professors who are more then likely are leftovers from the 1960’s hippie movement.
Capitalism and is political sister, democracy offer an opportunity not a guaranteed outcome. Socialism is a mutual shared poverty. It is nothing but a liberal fantasy and is built on a system of envy, jealous, greed, and a sense of entitlement. This is the product that is being peddled by the self proclaimed Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders and is only a slight to the left of the Democrat party which is a party that appears to be trending increasingly socialist.
I have three quotes about socialism that sums up both its false promises and the dangers of it to leave you with:
“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.” Winston Churchill
“The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.” Margaret Thatcher
“The goal of socialism is communism.” Vladimir Lenin
